Langkawi revisited 2012

After almost 3 years away from Kedah we are back to visiting Langkawi for work and play. The MH plane landed smoothly in the rain and there’s no aerobridge at this airport so we have to walk down steps from the plane door onto the parking apron to the arrival hall.
We’re not expecting any major visual changes and true enough there’s no big surprises. But what surprised us yesterday was the number of shoppers in the evening, large crowd on a Tuesday and this is not a school holiday or any kind of holiday. Most people were shopping for kitchen utensils and chocolates. That’s what we bought ourselves ha ha ha.
My Hotel – this is a new hotel in town, 3 years ago it didn’t exist. I rated it as a 2 star budget hotel.
Our first stop when we arrived was the Nelayan Restaurant at Jalan Bukit Malut. No change in the place from I remember  the last time I was here more than 3 years ago. Lots of choices of fresh seafood to be chosen and cooked. We chosed 2 crabs for the tomyam, ¼ of a large jenahak for the grill, siput buluh stir-fry, kangkong and rice. For the three of us the bill came out to RM77.00. More than I thought it would be but the food was nicely done and tasty.
Zul was kind enough to loan us the co car, so on the last day we went round the island to kill time. Some changes yes but not much. Pantai Cenang was busy as usual and new chalets and motels have sprung up. It was really hot in the afternoon that we hardly go out of the car. Had a simple luch in Pekan Rabu and saw some Caucasian having their meal here, it is not usual to see tourists eat in this kind of eating place elsewhere.  Opposite the Pekan Rabu is the new Baron Resort – looks expensive but rooms facing the sea would have a great view.
