Weddings and funerals.

Been to quite a few weddings and funerals this year, especially in the latter half of the year. A friend/colleague passed away at the age of 54 due to illness, an ex-staff and father of a contractor friend due to old age. Managed to attend four weddings this month and could not make to another one. Such is life, weddings and funerals.

Chicken on tree

These kampong chickens settled down perched 15 feet up high on a rambutan tree for the night. Safe place away from predators I supposed. They ran around wild during the day & not trained to come home to a coop at dusk. They are very quiet as soon as everyone of them settled comfortably. But come morning they start the day very early - 5am! They wake you up with their very loud and persistence kookkooo.....!!! The rambutan tree when it fruits taste real nice and sweet, could it be due to contributions from these chickens?

Cyclometer

Installed the Strada Cadence Cyclometer on the MU P8 today. That is the only one suitable because of the long wire required to connect the computer on the handle bar to the sensor down the front the wheel. The other types available at the bicycle shop has the wire at about 24 inches. A Topeak wireless model has a range of 450mm, a Cateye wireless model has a range of 700mm - both not long enough. As it is the cadence function is not used which is a pity. The price is RM90.00 - more expensive than a normal wired model but a lot less than any wireless cyclometer.

Landslides.

Landslides in Bukit Antarabangsa early yesterday morning leave 4 people dead and one person still missing. 14 bungalows destroyed, roads in the area cut-off. People living in a condominium need to be rescued & walk from the area via a jungle path, others still trapped with food and water running out. No doubt with the authorities in full swing to get to everybody no more lives would be lost, though many people would be much inconvenienced, lives disrupted and many would need to dig into their savings to continue living. The lessons of Highland Towers more than a decade ago and other similar incidence since were never learnt as pointed out by various quarters in the newspapers today. As one goes around nearby Taman Melawati today, hills are being scraped bald for yet another luxury bungalow project. They never learn. The developer, the authority, the people.

Come ride with me.

I've been riding almost everyday for the past two weeks on tracks/roads around the paddy fields. Most days I could manage 6 to 12 km. With more time available during the weekends 20km or more is possible. Most of the tracks/roads around the paddy fields has been paved but there are some that isn't, so around here one can get to ride faster on the paved stretches then slower on the earth road. No hills to climb, only headwind to fight against. All in all a very enjoying ride which I'm looking forward to every day. Some kid did recognise the bike and screamed "gerek lipat, gerek lipat!!" ("folding bike, folding bike!!"). I've yet to see another folding bike around here but I've seen two tandems on a regular basis.
